What is Low Voltage Outdoor Lighting? To start, we need to take a look at what low voltage outdoor lighting is all about. A system that is low voltage, you will have a system that includes a plug-in transformer, a low voltage light fixture and a low voltage cable. This plug will then go into an outdoor power receptacle that is grounded and then will send out 12 volts to help give you the outdoor lighting that you would like. |
Is Low Voltage Lighting AC or DC?
Most of the low voltage lighting that we will use outside is going to be AC because it is easier to work with and can last longer. However, there are a few options that are low voltage DC systems. If you are uncertain about which type is the best for you, our professionals are happy to discuss your options with you and help you choose the right one for your needs.
Are all LED Lights Low Voltage?
Since LED lights are some of the most commonly used lights for all of your outdoor plans, it is not uncommon for us to hear a lot of questions from our customers concerning these lights. Most LED lights, at least the ones that will be used outside, will be low voltage. This helps them not become so bright that they make it hard to see at night.
Is 12v Low Voltage?
12v is not an option that is used too much for standard lighting because it is really low. In fact, outside of some of the accent lighting that we can help you install, the 12v low voltage light is going to be too dull to be much help. Most of the time we will recommend something that has a little more voltage to it, to ensure that you are able to use the lighting to help keep you safe by seeing at night.
When it comes to LED lights though, you may find more of them are going to be closer to 12v and we are happy to use these. However, the LED lights are still brighter than some traditional 12V options so keep that in mind when choosing.
